"hm... let me take a look", the skeleton quietly said. The "mouth" of the frog had a speaker, and the whole structure seemed made of a single piece of metal. You could feel that the machine had been under the snow for a little while, as the whole thing felt cold as ice.

He almost immediately spotted a small compartment on the back of the machine, like the ones where you put the battieries or where there are all the switches. To Duo's own surprise, there was only a stiky note in it.

The note just said "pat its head", but on the top of the machine there didn't seem to be any button or sensor. A little wary but also curious, Duo delicately placed its hand on the "head" of the frog, between the big round eyes.

My extensive thoughts on the main characters in Newsies uk

Last post about the show I promise but I have too much to say about those guys

(Again I was sat in Manhattan and everything you guys know the drill at this point )

Starting off with Jack !

He has so many emotions ??? Like Michael is so good at portraying Jack's feelings here, and I think the one that comes back the most throughout the show is anger. He is angry at the world, he is angry because the newsies' life is literally so unfair, and don't get me started on his disgust toward Katherine in act 2. Like he doesn't even want to be near her he is staying as far away from her as possible and that's very striking

And that's the thing about Jack's anger, he is never just angry he is also incredibly sad and bitter ?? You can see exactly how broken this boy is and I love it

Also his version of Santa fe is legit so sad. Because first of all, he really makes you notice that Jack just got out of a fight. He is soaked and tired, stuggles to walk and has to hold on to everything he can find to keep his balance. And the way he sings is kind of a mix of angry and hopeless and his voice breaks and it hurts so much

And the final note ?? One of the best I've heard, it's not only the tone it's the emotion in his voice it's the way he is reaching desperately for something he knows he can't get and you can really feel that in this one note

I have so much stuff to say about hopeless Jack and I need to talk about his attitude in the watch what happens reprise because he is literally tired of this, he is desperate and genuinely scared for all his guys because he just wants to protect them and he can't. And that's why he gives up later on in Pulitzer's office, because the mention of Crutchie is enough to literally break him so don't even try telling him about Davey and other newsies going to the refuge

His speech at the rally is so heartbreaking istg I can't deal with this. The way his voice just breaks on every sentence because he understands exactly what's at stake here. And his "how long can you go without making money" line ? I'm like 99% sure he was speaking directly to Tommy boy. Tommy boy who had been a scab, and the last of them to join the strike. It's so specific and so cruel but at the same time devastating because Jack knows his newsies so well. He knows Tommy boy will be vulnerable to this I-

Also after the rally the newsies all pass by Jack shooting him darks looks and he just. Doesn't want to look them in the eyes. Excuse me while I scream in my pillow

His relationship with Katherine was very interesting too. Their dynamic was actually quite different from anything I've seen, overall much more genuine and less superficial than in some productions

+ during I never planned on you, his physical comedy is literally adorable ?? Like he makes Kath pose for him to sketch her and at some point he even tilts her chin up

One more thing I have to talk about, because getting a poc Jack is absolutely amazing and it changes so much stuff in the show ??? Like not explicitely, but the undertones are really different in the context of Jack being black. E.g. his entire Seize the day monologue feels so much more emotional, and Michael really speaks slowly to insist on every single line and make sure we know what he is talking about

Another striking scene about this is Something to believe in. I think that's part of why I said the Jack x Kath dynamic hit different, because this context really changes everything in this song, with the turning point being "I know girls like you don't wind up with guys like me". And it's not just about Jack being poor it's about him knowing very well what having a different skin color means in this world and he is scared to hell about it

The point I'm trying to make is that having a poc Jack gives a whole new dimension to the show and I absolutely adore the way Michael chooses to show this

Also I want to talk about Javey because why not but uh let me tell you Jack does not like Davey at the beginning. He is actually mean and when he talks about needing Les to sell newspapers he is clearly implying "but I don't need you." This changes later on, I really liked the scene before they run from Snyder when Jack thinks Davey need a place to sleep because it feels like okay I don't like your vibe but you're one of my guys now so I want to protect you

Anyway they become closer after that but yeah the way this dynamic starts off is very different

But then they become so intimate ?? I'll come back to this with Davey but they actually get close physically and emotionally, not only with the strike but also because they genuinely start liking each other. I think you need the context of the fandom's vision of Javey to appreciate this relationship development to it's fullest but when you have it boy oh boy

This may not all be coherent because the most constructive thing I can say about him atm is very close to "alekkkajja" so deal with me here

He is autistic. And gay. Ryan kopel I owe you my soul for this

The first time he comes on stage it already looks pretty clear that he is extremely anxious socially, and as the show goes on it's literally obvious that this guy is autistic as hell

He is stimming for the entire show ??? Always fidgeting and doing something with his hands, little nervous gestures all the time, stuttering when he has to speak in front of people...

When I say stuttering, I mean it. At the beginning it's clearly because he is extremely anxious and doesn't want to speak up on front of the others, he is refraining himself from saying what he really thinks. But then it changes ! Character development !!! He starts stuttering because he is rephrasing what he wants to say so he can make it clear, not because he is afraid to speak up !

Also his character development as a whole is just so amazing. It's not just the way he gets more self-assured throughout the show, it's the way he is clearly becoming more comfortable with all the other newsies ! It's the way at the beginning he is standing very far from the other (literally the other end of the stage) because he doesn't want to be a part of the strike, and then he goes toward them, he comforts them. It's the way he goes from the scared guy who stutters all the way through the "you gave me nineteen" line, to the guy who has to speak up at the rally in front of all the others ! And it's so clear he does not want to do this, he would rather be anywhere else, but he still has the courage to do it ! I could go on for hours about this but the way he gains self-assurance is just. So interesting.

Obv I can't talk about this without talking about the watch what happens reprise. For me it was the moments where I could really see how much he had changed (and how autistic he was) because he is just so excited ! He is talking fast and loudly, he goes toward Jack, tries to establish physical contact with him ! He just got so comfortable around him, he feels free to behave like this with Jack ! Also plotwise this is really the best interpretation of this scene imo, because his excitement is SO contrasting with Jack's hopelessness and it makes the whole dialogue 100% more moving

Also the way his voice goes from "is that a real place ?" = excited bc Jack you're so talented - to "ohhh is that Santa Fe ?" = okay this is bad

Also "we. Are. Inevitable." *Ninja pose*

+ "tell me how quitting does Crutchie any good ?" "Exactly" in the most I-told-you-so singsong voice ever

The scene after Jacobi's ? That's gay flirting if I have ever seen it. "Why don't you come over ?- TO MEET MY FOLKS" yeah sure we believe that

"It's- it's good to have you back again" he is so bright and happy and it's just adorable to watch pls

Idk who cares about this but um. When they all get in the triangle to say their names during Seize the day. He says Davey. He doesn't say David. He calls himself Davey. I'm gonna need a moment to recover from this

Coming back to the "being comfortable around Jack" thing but !! The reaction to meeting the governor !!!! When Roosevelt's shakes Jack's hand Davey runs toward him excitedly and they both fangirl so hard like "bro did you see what just happened ???"

Okay one last thing and i'll stop but he is incredibly protective of Les. During Seize the day he is the one to drag him away from the fight instead of Jack and during the rally he is pulling Les behind him to prevent Jack from getting to him and that's honestly so heartbreaking because it also shows how deeply disgusted he is with Jack at this moment

Yes I'll stop now sorry but I love this Davey so much you don't even know

I'm gonna be honest here, I never really liked Katherine. But Bronté's Kath ? I can and will die for her

She seems to be more aware of the situation. Like in Watch what happens and at Jacobi's she seems to actually understand what is at stake, maybe even more so than some of the boys

Also she is very responsible, during WWK she is on the aisles (right-hand side looking at the stage), taking notes about what the boys are doing ; and when she meets them at Jacobi's, instead of giving in to them turning her down and to Jack's flirting later on, she always tries to come back to the topic at hand= the strike. Imo this was very nice because it establishes her as an actual and serious reporter

Due to this it actually feels like she is very present in the show, because I think part of why I didn't like Katherine before was bc I felt as if she was established more as a plot device for Jack's love story than as an actual character (that's only my opinion tho). But here she really appears as a reporter who is essential to the strike, like a mix of Broadway!Kath and 92!Denton, which makes her whole arc so much more interesting imo

Sidenote but this essential role is also shown when she is the only one we see on stage looking at the banner at the end of Once and for all which is really cool

And she is so sassy ??? Like at Jacobi's she replies to the boy's insults in a very sarcastic tone, and during watch what happens she goes "a girl ? It's a girl ! Is that even legal ?" and mimics/mocks the attitude of the editors . Okay queen

"the guy painting places he has never seen is calling us crazy ?" is said to Davey instead of Jack

Also yeah "now would be a good time to shut up" I think a guy behind me gasped so yeah thanks queen

After the rally the emotion in her voice felt SO real and genuine. The way she proposes her plan to Jack feels like she is trying real hard to make up for not telling him everything, because she knows she has no excuse for it so now she can only try to do her best to make him forgive her. Also if I'm being honest, I never really liked Something to believe in as a song, but again, Michael and Bronté actually made me fall in love with it. Their voice were really intense - tho it was last sunday's show so I can't tell if this level of emotion with their voices almost breaking is and everytime thing or if Bronté was really losing it. Which, fair.

Moving on to Crutchie !

YES ??? This interpretation of Crutchie is just so different (in a really positive way)

Just to make it clear, I love AKB and I have nothing against his Crutchie. But after years of watching Crutchie be this little soft ball of sunshine who sometimes talks to Jack, this one really felt like he was finally allowed to express his full potential on stage

Because boy this Crutchie is loud. He is center stage. You can't miss him, he is always whistling, talking loudly, being noticed, you don't have a choice but to see him, you can't just not aknowledge him because he is right here and he makes you notice him

Also he is like. Essential to the narrative. Because he has a clear leadership role toward the other boys (telling them to run after Seize the day...). And his relationship with Jack is incredibly important here, from the beginning to the end it's them, Crutchie and Jack. That's established very clearly in the Prologue, but to me the most important scene to show this was the WWH reprise. Because Jack is so heartbroken and hopeless because of Crutchie. He is almost giving up because he's so genuinely scared for him. And don't even get me started on Jack's attitude when Pulitzer talks about Crutchie in the refuge bc my boy is this close to a breakdown

Also due to this Letter from the refuge hurts so much ?? He misses Jack and all the boys, and he clearly put the accent on telling Jack to take care of all the others ! To protect them !! He is in the refuge and all he wants his to know his friends are safe !

And his whole arc his so much darker in this ?? He is very aware of their situation, willing to buy the papers before the World will know and when Henry asks "at those prices ?" his answer is a very definitive "like we got a choice ?". And when he gets beat up after Seize the day he is actually pleading very loudly for the boys to come back for him and for Wiesel not to hit him. In Letter from the Refuge he actually seems to be in physical pain, and at the end when he gets back from the Refuge it's not just "yeah I got back that's nice" it's literally yes I went through hell and I came back. And oh boy his "may I ?" before cuffing Snyder and hitting him ? He's not joking around, he actually wants to make him pay for what he did

This is the Crutchie this fandom deserved and I would die for him thank you very much

And finally (yes I'm almost done I promise), Race !!!

Okay this is definitely my favorite Race

He has nothing to do with Ben's Race. If you ask me, he is much more like 92sies Race, though obviously not the same

He isn't just a goofy idiot joking around, he is really mature. He is one of the oldest and most mature newsies, and it shows, through the way he dresses and his attitude as a whole

Yes he still likes messing around, like in King of New York, but he is also very responsible toward the other newsies and is really shown as Jack's right-hand man, with many scenes where it's really obvious that he has a leadership role. E.g. at the beginning with his "Henry get down here", and during once and for all when he seems to be giving instructions to the newsies around the stage. Also he clearly cares a lot about them and wants to protect them so yeah overall a much more mature Race than what we got with Broadway

From what I saw he is still very close to Albert, and also to Specs ? Which makes sense because they are all among the oldest newsies. Finch also hangs out with them sometimes but less frequently

Also he is literally rough around the edges. He is actually ready to pick up a fight with the Delanceys at the beginning and oh boy don't get him stressed because then he is ready to lose it

Okay I really want to talk about his relationship with Davey because um. Race actively dislikes him for a solid half of the show (let's just assume no one likes Davey at the beginning okay). His "aren't we the hoi poloi ?" is actually mean. Maybe my take is entirely wrong, but imo the way Race sees it, Davey is just that priviledged guy who suddenly came in and has no idea what's at stake for most of the newsies, and he very strongly despises him for it. And at the beginning he is clearly not happy with Davey putting his guys in danger with the strike, which comes back to the idea of him being a leader and having to care for the younger newsies. Overprotective Race we stan

This changes after Seize the day tho, during Kony they actually seem to get closer and establish an intimate bond during the song

Also at some point (I think Seize the day ?) he gives Les a piggyback which is pretty cute

Okay I promise now I'm done ranting but this version of the show is actually amazing because the actors have an entirely different take from the Brodway show so it really feels like you're rediscovering it all over again

Oh alright- sure!

- The way Test Tube and Fan acted upon Cabby's files. I really don't like them in S3 other than what they had with Bot (but mostly just because I like Bot). It really felt so awful considering that those are her disability aids and meanwhile it is, somewhat in character for them to act like that (Fan acts before he thinks as shown in s2 when he ran back to the game, and Test Tube has a big sense of justice as shown in S2, considering how she treated Mic since she thought she was the one that made a whole mess), they're supposed to be more mature than before at least by how they act in S3. I think that Fan getting that Cabby needs those files and that she genuinely means good but stuggles would have been a great thing- heck! Fan ACTUALLY listening to Cabby and asking her why she wrote those things, and understanding her! And maybe Test Tube ACTUALLY apologizing to Cabby after Cabby rejoins, because she realizes she was fucking awful to her? Instead of making her feel bad about herself? I think that would make things less shitty on the context of Cabby and understanding her.

- Tissues's condition being treated as a joke is something that I really don't like. Meanwhile yes, I get that S2 characters ARE stereotypes, just more polished and given some more development (the best case of this is Microphone), and that AE was still just some teenagers back then (if I'm not wrong), Tissues was literally the first guy that got voted off and that sucked, and his main personality was his condition. And his condition is somehow even worse in the Fan short? At least on symptomps (I do not know how to write the word), making stuff somewhat more difficult, but he at least somehow got better in the end? He's showing that he's getting back his strenght, but I think that treating his condition on a more serious look and still giving him a personality would have been great. Showing that he is slowly getting better (meaning that he is getting a treatment of sorts) is good. But they can do better.

- Bot's & Cabby's scenes in Ep 14.

Meanwhile I did got the intention of "Bot is still struggling with their identity and Cabby is still struggling in general, which isn't a great combo considering that Cabby does need her disability aids and Bot still doesn't know about themselves at all, not wanting to be written down the same way they were written down by Test Tube and Fan", I would have liked to see Bot ACTUALLY communicating properly with Cabby in the episode and telling her about it directly, instead of making Cabby feel so lost and lying to he4. And the 'Bow' File getting destroyed scene would have been different I think? Instead of that happening, Bot helps Cabby getting to the top, and in the end, the only thing that changes is the color of Bot's file and the info probably.

- "Evil"... Paper & Paper.

Now this is one of the most problematic stuffs with the II writing, the bad representation of DID itself and demonizing mental health. It would be fairly easy to write, with research done and such. I would rename Evil Paper to Looseleaf instead. I would also really not just make him... like that? Paper went through such trauma and it affected him a lot. Looseleaf being more of a self defensive guy yet not violent/murderous one at all would be good, wanting to make sure they're safe and okay. I do not know much about DID myself but, let them be headmmates and actually talk about stuff.

- This is more of a general thing but I personally just really like the scrapped idea of Bot being built by Cobs? Heck! Cobs is supposed to BE the main villain! And all we got was Springy! And that guy isn't even confirmed to be built by Cobs! They're not doing many stuff with Cobs and he's such an interesting character.

- Fans VS Favorites. I do like III as a concept, but most of the S2 characters already had their arcs closed and such and I think it would have been better if they used the underveloped characters instead. To give them more personality and growth instead of just silly little comics and such. I would have liked to see Trophy, Tissues, Cheesy AND Soap getting development other than their main stereotypes!

- Soap's Character.

She is... a very boring character to me, personally. I know that AE has said that they were starting to care about Soap and such but it didn't really felt, like she was getting anywhere? Other than her whole thing being a germaphobe? And her addiction with cleaning? She shows to have a strong character when angry! I would have liked to write her on the chiller end and genuinely have more of a story than whatever she has going on now.

- Nickel's and Suitcase relationship.

I know, I know. This isn't meant to say that what Nickel did to Suitcase wasn't bad. But I think that it would have made more sense if the whole relationship didn't feel so... one sided. In friendship terms. Nickel thinks of Suitcase rather fondly despite her "betrayal", and they were friends in a way. But that's the thing. They don't really feel like friends at all- mostly because meanwhile Nickel does care to an degree for her, he still sucks ass at it, and Suitcase was really only hanging out because of Baseball in a way, and their whole thing is SO complicated that I can even make a long analysis on it.

I would have liked to make them actually like eachother. For them to ACTUALLY be good friends before the inevitable downfall. Nickel being there for Suitcase and (terribly) trying to comfort her. Suitcase actually liking Nickel's company and not feeling scared of him. To make Nickel, someone who's emotionally stupid as shit, be at least more sympathetic, but still having his hatred for Balloon take the best of him. To make them actually hang around without needing Baseball to be around.

Nickel is a complicated character and I do think that AE didn't have him figured it out 'till S3. So that's what I would change about him if I could- make him a bit more balanced. Make his yearning for the good old days make more sense. And maybe having him showing regret earlier on.

- Adding an small post-scene ep 14 s2 in which Microphone actually says hi to Pickle. Not a bad thing rewrite but I think it would have done things end on more of an bittersweet note.

There's more stuff I would have changed that's for sure but those are the main points I can think of!

Whumptober Day 4

Prompt: "You're a monster." Rating: Teen Characters: Multiple OCs Other Tags: Mermaids, Ocean fauna, Angst, Lots of angst, Hurt no Comfort, TW: Murder, TW: Child Murder, TW: Animal Death, TW: Blood.

"Nem, I need your help with something,"

"It's the middle of the night, Moray. Let me sleep,"

"Help your older sister won't you? Come on, it's important, and bring your vampire squid lantern,"

The purple skinned mermaid swam away from her brother's room, and out of the lair entirely. He sounded grumpy, but this was important. Because Moray messed up, she messed up really bad. Normally, she wouldn't care, but this time- her deed was punishable by death.

It didn't take long for Nem to join her outside, lantern glowing a bright blue that almost matched his scales. Good, he was able to wake up the glowworms. Quietly the two of them swam away from the settlement and towards an underwater shipwreck. It was old, and it would have completely fallen apart by now if it wasn't for the coral and seaweed holding the planks together. An octopus camoflaged into the wood as they drifted past, and Nem gave a small wave to the intellegent creature.

Inside of the shipwreck was darker than it was outside, minus a few sleeping cuttlefish flashing their colors in their dreams. Human skeletons littered the boat, especially where they entered. Some of them still had clothing on, expensive clothing too. Moray swam over to one of them, taking off a jacket and putting it on herself instead, and then grabbing an arm bone before it hit the ground. With a quick snap she broke the bone in half, and sucked the marrow out of one peice like she was drinking out of a straw.

"I thought you said this was important?" Nem asked with a yawn.

"It is. This will give us a bit of extra energy, here take it," She extended the bone out behind her, holding it in front of his face. The boy rolled his eyes, but took the peice of bone none-the-less, eating the marrow out of it himself. He dropped the bone when he was done, as did Moray and they continued up to where the mess hall would have been.

The mess hall was, well, a mess, to say the least. It was filled with both shiny and rusty objects, most of them sharp to the touch. It reeked of rotting plants and meats, things not even scavangers would want to touch. Swimming through, Moray picked up what would have been a meat cleaver to humans, but was just another object to mermaids. The tools wasn't why she was here though, although they where most certainly helpful, she was hear to prepare her kill.

Tied to a reletively large table, was a dead baluga whale. It had slashes all over its body as if it was bled. The body's eyes and mouth were open as if there was a stuggle and it met a painful end.

It was horrified in it's last moments, the look plastered on its face.

Nem almost screamed at the sight, meanwhile Moray handled this like it was the average day. The mermaid looked over at her brother, and huffed a sigh. "Shut your jaw before a shrimp crawls in there," She told him in a monotoned voice, pulling him along to the table.

"Moray this- you- your a monster! This is too far!" He yelled once he saw the poor thing up close. "This could have been someone's pet for all you know! What parts would you even need from this poor guy anyways?" His eyes didn't leave the dead animal's, but he could see in the corner of his eye his sister swimming around him.

She patted the squishy bit on the baluga's head, before snapping her fingers in her brother's face. "I needed it's electroreceptors. I'm hoping if we mix it with electric eel slime we might be able to stop heart attacks before they happen!" Her face was filled with excitment, the exact opposite of Nem's.

"You never- wait. This... Moray this is ours isn't it..." The boy's face paled in realization, choking on a sob. "You- You killed Urch! What the hell, Moray! He trusted you, he loved you! You ARE a monster! I'm going to get Mom!" He began to rush off, but was stopped by Moray grabbing him by the hair.

"You aren't going anywhere!" She hissed at him, shoving him into the table in a panic, his head hitting the corner of it. Hard.

The boy's hand went limp, dropping the lantern with a light thud. It's light dimmed, as did his eyes, staring up into his sister's. "Nem? Nem, wake up, I didn't mean to yell! Wake up!" Moray shook him, wailing at him to wake up over and over, before she finally went still in shock.

"Brain tramua... eels won't help with this," She said to herself, running a hand through his bloodied up hair ever so gently. She had to hide him. Oh, she just dug herself a deeper hole. The mermaid took of the jacket she stole, and wrapped it around her baby brother. Carrying him wasn't difficult, he was always as light as a jellyfish.

Out in the reef, she searched for any crevous large enough to fit the preteen. It didn't take long to find one, with how big the reef was to begin with. Carefully Moray set him down into the hiding spot, being watched by some fur seals and reef sharks. She didn't care. Her brother was dead, and it was her fault.

That was all she cared about.

She hovered there for a long while, some eels poking their heads out of the reef after a long while. Moray shot a glare at her namesake, but was distacted when a large shadow slowly covered the reef. Looking up, she could tell pretty easily it was a human ship. It didn't move like a whale, after all.

In a moment of desperation, she swam as fast as she could towards the ship, breaching the water and landing on the deck.

Everything went dark.

Alright, let's see, this one's hard

Well, I do belive I grew up being taught to be accepting and kind, so I guess that reflects on the way I do art

Also, kinda fucked up, but since I grew up religious (catholic) I went to church a lot, and they really hammered in that there's value on your pain, that suffering is something you do and has value (most of my family doesn't agree with this, but you know, when you hear "place a stone in your shoe, because heaven belongs to the suffering ones " you internalize that shit), so it kinda impacts the way I write about pain and suffering

I do believe pain has value, but not as something you have to do or you have to experience, but as, a human thing that happens, and ignoring it is not good, what I was taught is to live with it, to stay silent and just be grateful of being able to do stuff even with pain

I think feeling what you feel is important, not just brushing it off, but actually sitting and feeling it, so I try to represent that, suffering is not shameful or silent, but is also not something that you do to yourself because punishing yourself makes you a good person

Also, in the aspect of being morbid, the idea that what you think hurts others even if you don't act on it

Struggled a lot having intrusive toughts and liking horror and all that, I like writing sad and painful stuff, I like making characters suffer, I like when there's scary shit, and being morbid is like "bad" or whatever, but it's just something that happens, we love hearing and telling stories where people suffer, and even now I stuggle with censoring myself when I write, I want to write a lot more tbh

And I also mean in enjoying sad stuff, a lot of people that I know in real life seem to be so uncomfortable or just confused by the idea of enjoying sad stories (or horror stories), mostly "why would you do that if it makes you feel bad", sometimes you need to, crying or getting scared safely helps a lot sometimes (and it's fun to make people upset in a safe way too, we both know what you're getting into when I tag "hurt no comfort")

In the art part, boobs, nudity is neutral, and bodies have different shapes and colors and sizes and they are all so fun and wonderful, people who don't like drawing fat people are missing on the fun of making so many curved lines (I enjoy them way too much, all my art looks squishy even when I don't want it to)

Also it's in no way subtle, but I do draw myself as a demon for a reason

And I love art unapologetically, it's hard being an artist, I do good art, I love what I do, and I truly believe this is my calling, this is what I want to do with my life, I do art with full sincerity and that makes people uncomfotable sometimes (mostly my family, but whatever)

I think the ADHD/autism thing wouldn't even be bad if it was done by people who know about it, rather than people who (subconsciously or not) conflate those things with a lack of intelligence

tbh a lot of these headcanons originate from fans who actually have adhd/autism projecting their experiences onto characters they like. which in and of itself is fine.

obviously it becomes a problem when people who don't have adhd/autism use those popular headcanons to explain why some characters lack intelligence or lack self-discipline or are disorganized or are unble to take care of themselves. which, yeah, some ppl with adhd/autism stuggle with those things, and that's not anything to be ashamed of. but neurotypical fans using adhd/autism headcanons to perpetuate harmful stereotypes is not cool.

another thing that i think can be a problem is when white fans with adhd/autism apply their experiences to characters of color and aren't careful abt it. honestly, any time white fans project literally any aspect of their own experiences onto a character of color, we need to be careful. i've gone through depressive episodes where i couldn't make myself out of bed, but projecting that onto ed would be perpetuating the idea this fandom has that ed is incapable of taking care of himself. and my experience with adhd is not gonna be the same as a poc's experience, so just copy and pasting my life onto my headcanon for a character of color is gonna do that character a huge disservice

David is missing a chunk of his left ear, as a cat bit it off when he was a kid. since then he's been terrified of cats (but wont admit it)

Sephoras didnt know his hair was wavy for YEARS because he grew up in really bad conditions (financially, emotinally, etc.) and never learned good hygene habits + never had the money to buy good hair products

Lucy is part shapeshifter, her father being an animal-shifter who could change into goats, deer and other similar creatures. while shes unable to shapeshift herself, she does have goat ears and horns, and a deer's tail (this also means she has a lotta bodyhair, including chest hair and sometimes facial hair). also this kind of shapeshifter hybrid (one that has a shapeshifter parent but doesnt have the ability to shift themselves) in Drakenterra is called a caminist :3

Angelica's parents, Johann and Hecate Emperor, have about 14 (?) kids in total, 7 biological and 6 adopted. Angelica is the oldest.

Huen has no surname. When she became a senator and was asked for her full name, she kept saying "just Huen :)" and staring menacingly at them, until they lost their nerve and decided she would be, in fact, just Senator Huen (no last name given).

Angelica Emperor's full name is Angelica Ordolia Celeste Eudora Barbara Emperor, as her parents had so many names they liked and couldn't just pick one (they later stuggled to come up with names for their other 6 biological children, Angelica's youngest sister being named Angelica II).

Angelica's has a munchkin cat named Fluffy Baron Cecil Vanilla Cosmo Tabby I, Tabby for short.

Maffi has a jackdaw named espresso, but her youngest brother Bernard INSISTS on calling it Muffin (David finds it funny).

Angele knows how to sew and always makes amazing costumes for halloween (once Ellie introduces her to cosplaying, the game is on).

Ellie often makes references to Nullterra's popculture, which confuse the characters from Drakenterra (and a few other dimenstions) immensily. ("And who is this.... General Kenobi???" "Who tf is Bob Ross??" "What the fuck is a thor?" "No, I dont wanna have a bad time??" "I guess I am filled with determination?" "who is rick and why does he roll?" etc.)

Ellie was a fandom kid and probably wears FNAF and Undertale merch around the others (causing further confusion).

Sephoras has a thing for dumb brand names and slogans. He will point them out and complain about how nonesensical they are frequently.

Cyan's music taste changes all the time, one time they'll be making trap remixes of any song they get their hands on, next they're blasting classical music during a car ride, then they're listening to old rock bands the next time you see them. no one knows how many instruments they can play

Lucy can play ukulele and guitar

James collects flowers and Lucy always takes them and puts them into a herbarium. They often try to make teas out of stuff they find too, or use them as herbs. they also make flowercrowns together

Dots and Angele are the rich kids in the friend group, while Cyan and Seph have both experienced poverty at some point in their lives.

hghjgfhjytggfghjhygthjuhygt uuuuhgh idk i just do that??? first of all it's super sweet of you to ask, if you ever want to message me and get some more proper tips and whatnot feel free. i love helping people out when it comes to that kinda thing and i am FAILING to do so right now:

uuum, i'm not good at the teachy thing lol. lets see, i "started" drawing i wanna say around fourth grade? i mean i've never not drawn things as far as i'm aware, but that's the earliest i remember

wheni was in sixth grade i constantly plagiarized because i cared more about impressing my friends than feeling good about myself. don't do that please.

i didn't really "learn" to draw, i mean my parents are artists but they're glass artists and don't really use pen and paper and whatnot. i guess i just taught myself?

my inspiration throughout the years is almost solely fanart. people make cool shit and i wanted to join the shit show.

i only started posting my art online at the beginning of this year, and i plan to keep doing that indefinitely.

i've always been encouraged to draw and to do art from my parents, friends, and schools so it's no surprise i'm still doing it.

if i had to give an actual tip though, don't think about it as something you have to learn from someone, but rather something you learn from trial and error. make sure you really try to put thought and effort into it sometimes or you'll get upset with the outcome and think silly things about yourself. you need to know you actually can get something you're happy with when you keep a calm head and keep trying. don't be afraid to try something wacky and different to how you normally draw, it's how i get my best style changes.

and lastly, don't give up! you're awesome, and if you keep trying, one day you'll be awesome and content with your skill!

heres some little tips that i've learned through my experience: get ref for hair. and preactice a bunch, hair was hard at first for me, but now it's the easy part.

try all sorts of shit with noses, there'a a lot of ways to draw them and they're all cool

eye shapes carry a lot of emotion, so think about the shape your eyes are in when you show those emotions

same thing w/ eyebrows

mouths are weird. but it's weirder to leave that spot blank because you don't want to "ruin the drawing"

color theory exists, but you can't think too hard about it.

try fun poses.

A Cup-le of Idiots

AU where fwbs namseok arrive to a party only to see four stacks of cups in different colors... and not be able to decide which one to choose from.

I originally posted this as a twitter thread but decided to upload it here too, mostly to test the waters bc I'm very new to tumblr lol

I wrote this on a whim and on my phone, so there are probably a few mistakes, but whatever! Enjoy

There are four stacks of cups on the table, each with a label stating what their colors represent. Pink means 'taken', purple is 'DTF', blue reads 'single AF' and green is 'it's complicated'.

Namjoon and Hoseok have been staring at them for like 10 minutes now. They had to stand aside because a whole frickin' line accumulated behind them, angry partygoers shouting at them to "just take one, oh my gosh, it's not that deep, get it over with!"

But it is that deep, actually, thank you very much. Their whole relationship depends on this tiny colored piece of plastic. This choice will determine the future of their arrangement, for better or for worse.

Hoseok glances at Namjoon nervously, who has a hand on his nape and beads of sweat trickling down his forehead. He looks back at Hoseok, uneasy grin splitting his lips awkwardly.

"So, uh. Which. Which one should we?"

Hoseok giggles anxiously, hands fisting the edge of his shirt.

"Uh, you can choose. I'm on the same page," he says. Like he did twenty times before.

Namjoon pales.

Hoseok takes pity on him.

"Okay, maybe this one-," he reaches for the blue cup.

Right at the same time as Namjoon reaches for the green.

They both pause, eyes wide and yank their hands back.

"Of course, blue is- it's good, yes," Namjoon nearly falls over himself in his hurry to take a blue cup off the stack.

"Nonono, it can be green, you're absolutely right!," Hoseok tries to push his hand away.

His pulse is running a mile a minute in his ears. It's similar to the first time he and Namjoon... did the do, but less euphoric and more... throwing up-ish.

Why didn't they discuss their relationship better before falling head first into it??

"You're right, green is perfect, we're stuggling right now too, we are complicated for sure," Hoseok tries to argue.

Namjoon shakes his head.

"Blue is good, it's not like we're in a relationship."

Hoseok's heart cracks a little, feeling heavy as lead, even though it was him who chose blue in the first place.

"But other people might come up to us, then. You said you weren't interested in anything serious," Hoseok says. He feels Namjoon freeze next to him, but ignores it in favor of picking up a purple cup. "Wouldn't this be better, then?

"I said I didn't want anything serious?," he hears Namjoon ask.

"Yeah. That's why we're, y'know. Like this," Hoseok gestures vaguely, still eyeing the purple plastic thing. "I don't really feel DTF though, maybe I should just take the blue one. But you can go with purple-"

"Hoseok," Namjoon grabs his arm, huge hand enveloping Hoseok's slim wrist, making a light blush rise to his cheeks. "Hoseok!"

"What," he turns to Namjoon and halts.

The man looks like a deer caught in headlights, pretty brown eyes wide in shock.

"What is it?," Hoseok asks again worriedly. He reaches out on instinct, putting a hand over Namjoon's. "Is something wrong?"

"Hoseok," Namjoon repeats, then shakes his head. "Are you- Did you say we're fwbs because of me? Because I didn't want anything serious?"

"Uh," Hoseok frowns. "Yeah? You don't remember?"

Namjoon takes a breath.

"I thought we were fwbs because you didn't want anything serious!"

Hoseok stares at him for a good second.

What?

"No," he says, confused. He agreed to it because he wanted to be as close to Namjoon as possible and that seemed to be the only way.

"Hoba," Namjoon leans down a little to be face-to-face with Hoseok. Gosh, he's huge.

And so nervous. The anxious lines on his forehead are visible from miles away. He's biting his lip hard as he tries to find the right words.

Hoseok brushes his thumbs across Namjoon's knuckles gently.

"What is it, Joonie?"

He doesn't know why he's holding his breath.

Namjoon struggles for another second, then he closes his eyes, inhales. When he looks up again, he is much calmer. More determined.

Hoseok's heart is beating out of his ribcage. He holds Namjoon's gaze.

"Hoba," Namjoon starts, pronouncing the nickname oh-so gently. Hoseok's blush deepens. "I only agreed to be fwbs because I thought you wanted that."

Namjoon's plush lips curl into a small smile.

"I wanted to be your boyfriend. I just thought you weren't looking for that."

Hoseok's brain stops, short-circuits. Everything feels fuzzy around him.

What.

"What?," his voice sounds weak.

Namjoon's hand slips from his wrist, only to intertwine his fingers with Hoseok's.

It's warm. Feels right.

"I still want to be your boyfriend, you know," Namjoon is gazing at Hoseok with eyes full of fondess. "I will say that out loud before we misinterpret each other again."

Hoseok blinks.

He feels like he's dreaming.

But Namjoon squeezes his hands affectionately, fingers fitting perfectly between Hoseok's, and looks at him with so much care he feels flowers blooming inside himself.

Hoseok reaches out without a second thought. He's done with overthinking this.

He fists a hand in Namjoon's shirt and yanks him forward, meeting him halfway in a kiss that's both familiar and so new. Namjoon pulls him closer instantly, one hand still holding Hoseok's, the other going around his waist.

They get lost in the feeling, in each other. It's sweet and leaves them breathless when they part.

"I like you so much," Hoseok whispers, leaning in for another peck that Namjoon deepens into another kiss.

Hoseok's heart shaped smile is wide and shining when they pull away.

"We are so fucking stupid," he states, making both of them laugh.

"We are," Namjoon agrees. Then, he turns to the stacks of cups Hoseok has completely forgotten about. "I presume we know what to pick now."

Hoseok snatches two pink cups, giggles bubbling from his chest, feeling lighter than a butterfly.

"If I see any other color in your hands, you're dead, Kim Namjoon," he warns, but dissolves into a laughing mess when Namjoon pulls him into a hug, peppering kisses all over Hoseok's face.

"I've been dreaming of this far too long, baby, you won't pry this pink cup out of my cold dead hands!"

See the thing is. I don't have wips. I either finish my art or abandon it lol. I actually am working on a my first ever pmv but i can't really show that I guess, so have this artfight attack I'm currently working on

8. what's the most fun and the least fun parts about your process

most fun is definitely coloring unless the rendering goes extremely well. in that case rendering lol

least fun i'd have to go with lineart/cleaning up the sketch

9. show us a finished piece right alongside the original sketch

i was stuggling for this one, because. i do this atrocity where instead of drawing lineart over the sketch, i just clean up the sketch until it's somewhat good enough (i realize the above image is a bad example but it's true i prommy). yes i hate lineart that much. BUT i found this thing i did entirely off a traditional doodle so i'll be going with that

10. how many different sketches do you usually have until your piece is finished

only one until very recentely, when i started getting more demanding about my poses and proportions and stuff
